Over the last 15 years, Indian IT service exports have grown close to 100 times to $100 bn. The industry has experienced shocks like the Dotcom bust and the economic meltdown of 2009. Yet, today the industry still stands on a strong footing contributing ~7.5% of the country’s GDP.

Corporate Fixed Deposits

Introduction

Corporate Fixed Deposits (FDs) are similar to bank FDs, except that the money invested is with a corporate other than a bank. Corporate fixed deposits are governed by the Companies Act, 1956 under section 58A. The interest rates offered by Corporate FDs are generally higher than those offered by banks. A corporate fixed deposit is best suited for investors who want stable returns on their investments over a fixed tenure. Credit rating agencies like CRSIL, ICRA and others provide ratings on Fixed Deposits, which helps an investor to understand the risks associated with the investment. Generally, Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs) & Housing Finance Companies (HFCs) offer such corporate fixed deposits.

INVESTMENT ADVISORY

Conceptually, an Investment Advisory is a service that provides investment advice and designs a strategy to manage a certain sum of funds. Here, we have provided an Investment strategy in the form of model portfolios. With the basic understanding that investors can be broadly classified as high, medium and low risk takers, we designed an Aggressive portfolio, Moderate portfolio and Defensive portfolio respectively, as on November 16, 2010. We have revised our Model Portfolio. Each portfolio is allocated a sum of Rs. 5 lacs, which is gradually invested across various suitable stocks, as and when a suitable opportunity exists. Till the time investments are not made into the equity market, these funds would be parked into safe liquid funds. Any changes made in these portfolios would be communicated to investors during trading hours via e-mails and AWACS. Every fortnight, these portfolios would be reviewed on basis of their performance vis-à-vis the benchmark index, S&P CNX.

SILVER

Fundamentals:

COMEX Silver tested the $30/oz level for the second time last week and ended the week with a sharp 3.1% slide. Correction in gold and industrial metals along with the rising stock levels at the CME warehouses has maintained the pricing pressure.

Silver is showing signs of weakness. However, there may not be a sustained decline unless gold moves out of its current range. Sharp increase in short positions in the last few weeks will however make silver vulnerable to bouts of short covering.

JAPANESE YEN

Fundamentals:

The Yen declined against the Dollar in the last week by around 1% as risk sentiments shifted on the easing worries over the European debt crisis, following a successful Spanish bond auction. Asset flows favored the Japanese Yen over the Greenback, in part due to the increased easing measures adopted by the Bank of Japan (BoJ).

The Yen inched lower after commodities and currencies briefly rose on hopes over China easing policy and as flows from Japanese importers and 'toushin' investment trusts pressured it against the US Dollar.
